Fiction DepartmentThe Fiction Department has novels, novellas, and short stories for adults. The department also has a collection of reference books and finding aids relating to fiction works and genres.There are over 200,000 items in the department. It is the one of the  largest public library fiction collections in the U.S.

Collections of Note:

Foreign Language Fiction
The department has classic novels in over 25 foreign languages with the most recent additions being works in Russian and Spanish.

Large Print
The library’s collection  of fiction and nonfiction books in large print for adults and teens is housed in the department.

Reference Materials
The department’s reference collection is designed to help readers and researchers identify works by genre, theme, time period, and format. There are also materials to help customers discover new authors and to learn about recent trends in fiction.

Retrospective Collection
With a special emphasis on English language novels from the 19th and 20th centuries, the retrospective collection starts with works originally published in the 17th century.It is the largest public library retrospective fiction collection in Maryland.
