10:00 AM - 11:30 AM: Welcome & Keynote: Library Digital Collections: Landscape and Future

Nick Tanzi

Library digital collections have grown by leaps and bounds since the early days of ebook lending and now include digital magazines, audiobooks, online learning software, and streaming music and movies. We’ll explore how these collections continue to evolve through technological change–including the advance of AI–and the resulting changes to patron behavior, as we plan for the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.

Nick Tanzi is the Assistant Director of the South Huntington Public Library. He is an internationally recognized library technology consultant and the author of the books Making the Most of Digital Collections Through Training and Outreach (2016) and the coauthor of the Best Technologies for Public Libraries: Policies, Programs, and Services (2020). Nick is a past column editor for Public Library Magazine’s “The Wired Library," and his work on the intersection of libraries and technology has been featured in publications including Computers in Libraries, Library Journal, and Marketing Library Services. Tanzi blogs at the-digital-librarian.com.

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM: Digital Maryland: Empowering Public Knowledge and Preserving Heritage

Presented by: Tracy Thompson, Danielle Ford, and Megan Kean, Librarians, Digital Resources Department, Enoch Pratt Free Library & Maryland State Library Resource Center

Digital collections at Digital Maryland and the Maryland State Documents Archive play a crucial role in preserving local histories and artifacts that might otherwise be lost. These collections highlight the diverse stories and voices within our communities that may not be fully represented in physical archives. In this webinar, experts will discuss how their digital collections have helped community members engage with unique histories and cultures, deepen their appreciation of local heritage, and foster connections across generations.

3:00 PM - 4:00 PM: ADA Title II Digital Accessibility for Libraries

Amy Drayer

In April 2024, the Department of Justice published a revision to ADA Title II that may have significant implications for digital accessibility in libraries. With its short timeline, libraries need to start making decisions and taking action soon.

Amy Drayer is a User Interface Developer for the University of Minnesota Libraries, co-chairs the Library Accessibility Alliance, and is active in several other accessibility groups. As a developer, Amy has redesigned and maintained websites from every aspect including online catalogs, actively researching and applying digital accessibility for nearly a decade. Previously, she was a systems librarian for the U.S. Army and was involved in centralizing the library system as well as led a web centralization project.
