COVID-19 Tax Filing Information

Due to COVID-19, income tax returns filing and payments previously due on April 15 are now due on July 15, 2020. This extension is automatic.

July 15, 2020 is the deadline to file for a federal extension. For those who file for a federal extension, income tax returns will be due on October 15, 2020. The due date for quarterly estimated payments due in March is extended to July 15. At this time, second quarter payments for 2020 are still due by June 15.

Tax Information Resources

Visit the Maryland Taxes website for information on Maryland taxes and current deadlines. Individuals and businesses can file and pay Maryland taxes online.

Visit the IRS website for information on federal taxes including forms, e-filing, and updates.

Visit Information for Business Taxpayers for the latest on filing your Maryland business taxes. Employer withholding payments and sale and use taxes for sales that were due on March, April, and May 2020 are now due on June 1, 2020.

Additional Information

CASH Campaign of Maryland is providing free remote tax preparation for individuals making less than $56,000 a year. They have also created a guide to additional financial resources for individuals and businesses affected by COVID-19.

Economic Impact Payments are being sent automatically to those who have completed their 2018 or 2019 tax returns complete with direct deposit information. Directions for those who haven’t filed or don’t have direct deposit set up are forthcoming through IRS.gov/coronavirus.
