Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers Project, 1936-1938
Contains more than 2,300 first-person accounts of slavery and 500 black-and-white photographs of former slaves. From the Library of Congress's American Memory Project.
Documenting the American South: North American Slave Narratives
Includes all the existing autobiographical narratives of fugitive and former slaves published as broadsides, pamphlets, or books in English up to 1920. Also included are many of the biographies of fugitive and former slaves and some significant fictionalized slave narratives published in English before 1920. Voices from the Days of Slavery: Former Slaves Tell Their Stories
Almost seven hours of recorded interviews of 23 former slaves, that took place between 1932 and 1975. Most were born between  1823 and the early 1860s, allowing their full lives to be reflected, including common themes of slavery, slaveholders, coercion of slaves, their families, and freedom. Browsable by subject, place, name, song title (songs learned during enslavement, as sung by interviewee) and interview. From the Library of Congress' American Memory Project.
